Today, I went out for a 30-minute run. The first of the year. It’s been a long time since my last one, back in September 2023. I decided to do it partially because it was a wonderful day this afternoon in Brooklyn, partially because I am running the NYC marathon in less than 200 days, and partially because my fiancée and I watched “Kipchoge: The Last Milestone” on Amazon Prime after lunch. It’s a beautiful, inspirational documentary, so much so that it made me put my running shoes on and go out.

30-minute run from the Brooklyn Navy Yard to under the Williamsburg Bridge and back

Today’s run was from the Brooklyn Navy Yard towards Williamsburg, right under the bridge and back. I’m still thinking about what training plan for the marathon I should follow and how much yoga I could squeeze into my weekly training schedule. One thing that this short and easy run made clear to my mind is that I do need mileage. I do need to run. So, as soon as the training for the marathon starts, I will need to drastically reduce the weekly yoga sessions. Maybe try to do Mysore Ashtanga Yoga 1 or 2 times a week.

Today, the run was easy and enjoyable. I felt good afterward and could not wait to wear my running shoes again. However, I know what it means to prepare for a marathon, and there are very few 30-minute easy runs on a marathon training plan. So for now, I’ll try to add 1 or 2 easy runs a week until the beginning of the training to generate some momentum and not go from 0 to hero, assuming that since I already run marathons, I can pick up and start a training plan whenever I want without a little of preconditioning.

I’m excited about this journey and running will become one of my main focuses again in the following months. Yoga will take the passenger seat for a while, but the yoga practice will help and complement the running in ways I’m curious to discover.
